This systematic course of Developmental Mathematics for children 6-11 y.o. combines two strong mathematical approaches – English and Russian, contributing to the formation of mathematical knowledge and skills in children. Using fusing the Russian mathematical discipline with the English approach promotes understanding over memorization and builds a firm foundation in the subject.
We also bring the fun and games back into learning with in-class competitions and group problem-solving at the Olympiad level:
- “Intellectual Games”
- author’s system of exercises on set theory, 3D thinking, the logic of statements, analysis of patterns
- a system of tasks for acquaintance with the world history of mathematics, chess, mathematical games.
Educational blocks can be used as a powerful learning tool and help children to develop their:
- Fine motor skills
- Hand-eye coordination
- Spatial awareness and reasoning
- Cognitive flexibility
- Hand-eye coordination
- Critical thinking
- Social competence
- Engineering skills
The Geoblocks are an ideal concentration tool – a patience game, where the spatial insight of children and adults is challenged and developed. There is evidence that structured block-play is linked with higher mathematical achievement via improvements in spatial reasoning.
A pattern gives a powerful rise of concentration, spatial thinking, imagination, logic, and observability. Games with the patterned blocks are very pleasing to the children as they see their successes and get great satisfaction from the positive result of a block design; the first tasks of educational blocks can be easy but require more effort and mental abilities later.
We welcome parents to a “parental class” that will be held on a regular basis where you can test your maths abilities whilst gaining a full understanding of what your children will learn and explore.
Classes will be held on Saturdays from 12:30 to 13:30 at Little Ealing Primary School (Weymouth Avenue, London W5 4EA) starting from September 25th.
